Warm up
9 Sep 2004  Feedback  QL: Prepare01

The following is based on current opinion in the sport science community.  However, it has implications for injuries so please read our medical disclaimer before continuing.

Our current advise is that no stretching should be used in general.  Although this is in complete opposition to current common practice, it is based on solid research.  See our research review

Specifically we advise against static stretching and dynamic/ballistic stretching before, during or after performance sessions

However, we do recommend a gentle sports specific warm up routine that activates all the muscles that shall be used in the performance.  This is to increase muscle temperature (which is associated with improved performance and possibly reduction in injury risk) and blood flow to muscles (good for performance)
