To help the player control their nerves it is useful for them to concentrate on the things they can control rather than focus on the things they cannot control. Furthermore, the more that situations can be brought under the control of the player, the better they feel. One useful example of this is to have a checklist to get ready the evening before competition. The checklist introduces the control needed for preparation and removes fears over forgetting something. Below is a sample checklist:
